A 2003 cargo trailer with more than $8,000 worth of
gear inside has been stolen from a Boy Scout troop
in Liberty, according to the troop’s assistant
scoutmaster.
Boy Scout
Troop 172 in Liberty raised money to buy the $3,300
trailer by holding car washes and popcorn sales, said
David Hansen, assistant scoutmaster.
Hansen
said the 15 boys, ages 11 to 17, in the troop worked
hard to get the trailer.“This was their pride
and joy,” he said.
They use
the 14-by-7-foot tandem-wheel trailer to haul the
troop’s camping gear.
Hansen
said he kept the trailer on his property and noticed
it was gone this morning.
“It
happened sometime between Monday and now,” he
said, describing how he mowed the grass in the area
Monday and might have gone down there Tuesday.
He said
the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has been
to the scene.
The troop
bought the trailer in 2003 for a trip to a scout camp
in Pennsylvania. They use it often and were planning
to take it on Oct. 5 for the Kings Mountain Pickens
District Campout.
“All
our gear is in there, everything,” Hansen said.
“All our tents, all our cooking gear, any kind
of extra gear, tables, chairs, lanterns.”
He said
it was probably about $8,000 to $10,000 worth of equipment.
“It’s
part of us,” he said. “When we go somewhere,
we take that along with us.”
He asked
if anyone sees the trailer to contact the Pickens
County Sheriff’s Office. |
